In an ideal world I’d have been able to fire some screws in but unfortunately there wasn’t anything biting.. But either way we gotta try, this would have been my system regardless of screws or not. Scrape back seal, fill flex, scrim tape, fill flex over the scrim tape then 2 coats of a skim compound. Take it wide to you can level it out then seal with Gardz and 2 x top coat.
