In October 1796, ships from the Caribbean brought 2,512 prisoners of war to Portchester Castle. Records show 2,080 of the prisoners were black. A new exhibition at the site chronicles their lives. Cultural descendants of those held captive recently travelled thousands of miles to visit the castle, retrace their ancestors' steps and recover a lost piece of their history.
